Hot Summer Days

You probably wouldn't hear this from most people, but then again I am NOT most people, lol. I passionately despise Summer. It's hot, it's humid, and I burn to a crisp in a matter of minutes without sunscreen. I applied SPF 75 to the kids and myself before heading out this afternoon, and I still ended up with a sunburn! Ah! The horror. I'm a pasty white Irish red head, so it doesn't take much for me to end up looking like a lobster. Not to mention, I just don't do well in the heat. It drains my body, and zaps my energy. But, the kids had fun, and that's what counts. The minute Paisley sat down on her swing, she snapped, "Pop-em-sickle! Pop-em-sickle! Green! No, red! No, orange!" "Make up your mind, pumpkin. What color do you want?," I replied. "And ask me nicely! You need to say please." I fetched an orange one for myself, and green for Paisley. If I waited for her to make up her mind, it would have taken hours. I decided to go with her first choice, and if she didn't like it, she didn't have to have one! We only lasted about 30 minutes outside today. The sun was beating down on us, and I could just feel my pale body soaking up those rays, and turning pink. Sure enough, when we came inside, I noticed a lovely rosy hue all over. Ugh. Sunburns suck. With all the awful ones I've had over the years, you would think I might have toughened up and gotten used to it by now. Nah. They still hurt, they're still tender and sore, and it's agony when you have to hit the showers. I'll be glad when Winter finally comes back around. Cold weather is my forte. You can bundle up and get warm, but when it's hot and you've stripped down to your birthday suit, you just have to sit in front of a fan and wait it out.
